  • Three reasons why this book is the perfect Christmas-gift!

1) While you can focus on practising compassion for ALL (including animals but also family members whose eating preferences you may not accord with) as well as on yummy #plantbased dishes, your table-mates can dive well into this book, that predicts the future of a world in which the eating of animals would have become taboo.

2) This book shows that stuffed turkey is soooo 2018. What, you never heard of green cabbage roulade and other juicy, kind recipes of @maneatplant, @wickedhealthy or @deliciouslyella? U. R. Missing. Out.

3) For (wannabe) vegans, this book explains everything you need to know about health, culture, and vegansexuality (say what? yes.) If eating less meat and dairy was on your resolutions list, then this is what you need. For carnivores, this book explains why eating meat and dairy is not as natural, necessary and normal as you probably were taught; it will give you plenty of food (!) for thought. Just not food made out of dead animals.

Now still only available in Dutch, but next Christmas it might be already available in English (translations on the way & worldwide rights sold, hurray!)

  • It's been half a year since my book (Once Upon a Time, we ate animals) was published in the Netherlands. Ever since, I've lived in a whirlwind of lectures, interviews, radio-and other media-performances, debates, criticism, applause, self-doubt, deep-knowing, lack of sleep, overload of enthusiasm, coffees, and wine.

Oh, and also, a reprint happened in the Netherlands, two tedxtalks followed, and finally a contract was signed for the international rights.

It has been awesome, but it's time for a bit of rest. There is always more to say about the urgent themes of #climatechanges, #sustainability and a #plantbased future, but honestly, this writer is dead-tired. My mind longs for a period of fresh research and unknown paths of writing, my body craves regular exercise and healthy breakfasts (instead of munching away chocolatebars and peanutbuttersandwhiches late at night after another television-performance).

I'll be less outgoing, less accessible for media, less activist, less whatever it is that is holding me from #writing. See you soon, though, albeit somewhere from my cave, where I'll be thinking, reading, meditating, and typing away like a mo-fo.

Doen hoor. Leuk is ze, deze vrouw.

I will admit that I was a little star truck when I met my newest guest for The Braveheart club podcast. @marjolijnvanheemstra is a theater maker, poet and writer that I have been following for years, as she's so friggin' good . Because she writes texts that move, because she does not shy away from the difficult themes, and because she has such surprising-fun hobbies like following the NASA hubble or thinking about why we are actually afraid of the dark.

And so she came to record an episode, to talk about courage in art, and what it means to be brave in life. We also talked about the dark, and why it is so scary (and how you can teach yourself to be less afraid in the dark).

It all turned out to be relaxed and cool. Have you ever met someone for the first time and then it seems that you have been drinking coffee a thousand times, sharing on broken relationships and chocolate bars? That's how this meet felt.

The pod is available on Spotify & Itunes.

  • "In this powerful and urgent Tedtalk, anthropologist of the future Roanne van Voorst explains which 2 things we need in order to create radical societal change.

She argues that what we need is not money, power, massive public agreement or another seemingly-likely answer.....Instead, what we need, according to research, will surprise you and fill you with unprecedented hope for our future."

  • Sharing this incredibly kind message of babe @professionalwildchild about my Focustraining, in which I help people become more productive - without overwhelm, stress or a 80hours workweek. #grateful ・・・
“Do you know what you need to do lists for? For things that are só unimportant, that you need to write them down - otherwise you will forget all about them.” 🤣 Wise words from my dear friend, writer, power woman and mentor @roannevanvoorst. This week she organized another “Focus Week” in which I participated, in which you don’t “do” the million “to do” things that you “need to do”. Instead, you focus on what you want to do, but haven’t been doing. You know: the things that you live for. That come from your being, your core, your essence, your fire, your passion, your love ✨❤️ The thing(s) that you’ve been postponing for weeks, months, if not years, and haven’t made into a priority, but is actually something you deeply long for, live for, and have been wanting to do for a long time. Life however, and the million little ‘to do’ thingies, got in the way. “Being productive” comes from an idea that we always have to produce more: it’s about doing more and getting a lot of things done. We live in a world where we are taught that the more we ‘do’, the better it is. Crossing the to do list makes us feel good. While, in return, we actually “do” less, and are far away of what is in line of our actual being and distracts us from the real work. No wonder there’s so many people suffering from burn-outs, unfulfillment and unrest 🤷🏻‍♀️ This week I didn’t do any of the jobs I “needed” to do, solely on what I “wanted” to do, and I was completely in focus, motivated and calm at the same time. Tuning out from pretty much anything and everything, being in check with what I actually WANT in the long run and getting (way) more done because of it. And somehow, everything fell into place at the same time this week. Instead of working from a place of ‘having to’, it turned into a week of ‘wanting to’, which made me thrive and concentrated like no other. At the end of each day I had so much energy léft, that I didn’t want to stop!
